Two-concert subscription to the 2019-2020 season of the 90-voice GMChorale, conducted by Artistic Director Joseph D'Eugenio.

About this Event

From the GMChorale's Artistic Director Joseph E'Eugenio:

As the GMChorale’s 2019-2020 season took shape, “newness” emerged as a theme, not only in newly-composed music, but in newly-considered approaches to established classics, and in lesser-known though beautiful music that deserves to be newly-heard.

In November, the GMChorale will give the first Middletown performance of New Every Morning by Connecticut composer Peter Niedmann, commissioned in 2019 by the First Congregational Church in Cheshire. A joyful setting of hopeful, evocative texts, this music weaves a rich tapestry that is comforting, celebratory, and uplifting. To frame this brand-new music, the Chorale will sing a selection of choral settings from the past half-century that evoke ancient traditions from Renaissance Italy to Appalachia and beyond.

When we think of Bach, Handel, Mozart, and Schubert, our minds turn to the past. Newness in centuries-old music? Impossible! Yet in these timeless works we can, indeed, find new inspiration. In April, the GMChorale will offer fresh interpretations of well-known masterworks for chorus and string orchestra. We will welcome the young voices of the Elm City Girls’ Choir and the Saecula Singers, along with some of the finest string players in the region, to join the Chorale as they bring new life to these beloved classics.
