Description

Session 01: "Statistics made easy using Minitab"
by Ned Schneider

Presentation synopsis: Statistical methods are commonly used to determine if a hypothesis regarding the data is true. One-Way ANOVA is a statistical method used to compare 3 or more means. One-Way ANOVA is equivalent to a multi-level one factor Design of Experiments (DOE). At this clinic, we will perform a One-Way ANOVA test on 3 sets of data using hand calculations and then using Minitab.

By attending this clinic presentation, you will…

  • Recount the many things Statistics can do for us.
  • Learn why we can use the F-Test, a test used to compare variances, to compare means.
  • Learn how to use the ANOVA formula instead of using the SUM-of-the-Squares Method to determine if the means are statistically significant.
  • Learn how to solve the ANOVA example using Minitab and discover some additional features Minitab has to verify method assumptions and to identify which means are statistically different from the other means.
  • Hear about an exciting opportunity to take a new awesome Statistics Course Online.

BIO: Ned Schneider is a consultant and trainer with Advanced Response Engineering, LLC and has 20+ years medical device industry experience as an engineer and Director of Engineering working for several leading technology companies. Ned has received many Corporate Awards from 3M, Allergan and Advanced (Abbott) Medical Optics for outstanding performance that resulted in significantly improved product and process performance while reducing costs by millions of dollars annually. He says much of his project success resulted from using Design of Experiments to gain new knowledge about product and process performance necessary for breakthrough business results.

Ned has compiled many Patents over the course of his engineering career and has a B.S.M.E. & B.S. Industrial Engineering and Management. Ned teaches ASQ Certification Refresher Classes for the Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and Certified Quality Engineering Programs and he has taught Design of Experiments (DOE) for both UC Irvine and UC San Diego through their Extension & Corporate Training Programs. He is an ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and Certified Quality Engineer with considerable expertise in the areas of product development, process development and automation.

Session 02: Applied Statistics – Best Practices for Process Improvement
by Greg Golamirians

Presentation synopsis: Applied statistical methods and techniques are extremely powerful tools in practical and scientific problem solving and decision makings for industrial, manufacturing and other businesses. However they are sometimes perceived as expensive, complicated, intimidating, cumbersome to use and difficult to interpret the results and communicate by engineers and practitioners, hence not quite promoted in practice.

Fundamental statistical knowledge is crucial in benefiting from such tools, however understanding dos, don’ts and best practices will enable practitioners to achieve the best results and are keys to success. This session is intended to provide overview of such tools and their applications across various industries with real life example highlights.

BIO: Greg Golamirians is currently Director of Manufacturing Engineering at Alfred Mann Foundation, a nonprofit organization specialized in design and development of implantable medical devices. With over 20 years of experience he is specialized in diverse range of expertise including manufacturing, operations excellence, quality and reliability, process development and improvement. He also has extensive experience in leadership, strategy development and execution, engineering, project management and financial acumen.

His background spans across multiple industries, namely medical device, semi-conductor, automotive, aerospace, HVAC, material handling and consumer goods. He is very passionate both as professional and trainer with delivering specialized trainings to support practitioners on gaining technical insights in their daily operations as well as mentoring and assisting them to succeed and excel in their careers.

His accomplishments include successfully leading various process improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, cost, cycle time, defects as well as improving yield, design for manufacturability, process automation and improvements, and implementing lean manufacturing and quality management systems for various industries.

He has a B.S. and M.S. In Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering as well as an MBA from California State University Pomona. Additionally he holds PMP, CSSBB, CRE, CQE, and CQA certificates.
