Description

Hands-On Pre-Conference Workshops

The What's the Fix? pre-conference workshops are a chance to get hands-on experience with a small group of participants and moderators. Both events take place at Dell Medical School on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin and are live-streamed everywhere.

Choose from the following sessions:

WORKSHOP 1: Lead with the story: How to capture hearts, change minds, and inspire action

May 16, 2018: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Everyone has a story – yes even you! Your experience is the key to creating movement and change. Crafting compelling stories can enable people to escape their comfort zones and share a new perspective. This workshop led by Kijana Knight-Torres, Design Researcher at the Design Institute for Health will uncover what makes good stories tick and guide participants in the process of creating meaningful connections with others and helping listeners transition from “I know” to “I understand.”

Core Focus:

There are numerous ways to convince people of our ideas. Stories can help us breathe our intention into others so that they see what we see and feel what we feel.

WORKSHOP 2: Finding a fix: Strategies to empower patients and strengthen health care

May 16, 2018: 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

This workshop will, fittingly, be led by a collaborative patient, doctor and nurse team: “e-Patient Dave” deBronkart, Dr. Danny Sands and Marge Benham-Hutchins. It explores how activated and empowered patients can engage as responsible drivers of their health, and how providers can encourage and collaborate with them as full partners in their health and care.

Core Focus:
You’ll learn about the Participatory Medicine model of health care and gain tools and tactics that can be employed by both patients and providers to support a collaborative relationship and therefore improve health outcomes and satisfaction.

This free event is for anyone who wants to change health care for the better. Be part of the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #WTFix.
