The twelfth annual West Michigan Regional Undergraduate Science (WMRUGS) Research Conference features a keynote speaker, research posters presented by undergraduates as well as research talks by undergraduate and graduate students from regional colleges and universities. Graduate School recruiters will be on hand to discuss graduate school opportunities at their institutions. Internship and employment recruiters will be on hand to discuss graduate school opportunities at their institutions. This event is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to present their own research to a large and supportive group of scientists, and for faulty to learn more about the research taking place at colleges and universities in West Michigan. Lunch will be provided.

All presenters must register as either a principal presenting author or a co-presenting author. If you are the principal presenting author submitting the poster title and abstract, please get approval from your faculty advisor and/or research mentor before registering. This event is open to the public. All attendees (not presenting) must register individually to attend this event.

As of 11:59 pm on October 15th there are 172 posters registered. Due to space limitations, the maximum number of poster is 175.

All student presenters and attendees must register. The registration deadline for this event is Monday, October 15, 2018.

REGISTRANT TYPES: PRESENTERS

Principal Presenting Author-Student: If you are presenting a poster, as well as submitting the poster title and abstract, please select this option on the registration form. Only the principal presenting author-student will have access to submit the poster title and abstract. Please check with your faculty advisor and/or research mentor before registering to ensure that you are to register as the principal presenting author-student, and you are to submit the poster title and abstract. Due to space limitations, the maximum number of posters is 175.

Co-Presenting Author-Student: If you are co-presenting a poster with the principal presenting author-student, please select this option on the registration form. Please check with the principal presenting author-student to ensure that they registered, and that they have submitted the poster title and abstract. Please also check with your faculty advisor and/or research mentor to ensure that you are to register as a co-presenting author.

Student Attendee: On the registration form, please select this option only if you are a student attendee for this event and will NOT present a poster.

Faculty Attendee (Faculty Advisor, Research Mentor or Institutional Administrator/Leadership): On the registration form, please select this option only if you are an attendee who is a faculty member, faculty advisor, research mentor or institutional administrator/leadership.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

So there are no duplicate submissions, the principal presenting author-student is responsible for submitting the poster title and abstract. Poster titles must have no more than 125 characters, and abstracts must have no more than 1200 characters.

Below is an example of how submissions will appear in the program/abstract booklet:

Principal Presenting Author-Student: First and Last Name, Institution, Field of Study

(List of Co-Presenting Student Authors)

(List of Co-Authors that are NOT presenting including Faculty Advisors and/or Research Mentors)

"Title: No more than 125 characters"

POSTER INFORMATION/POSTER SESSIONS

All student presenters (principal presenting author-student and co-presenting author-student) will stand by their posters in either the morning or afternoon sessions based on the assigned poster number. Even-numbered posters will be presented in the morning (poster session I) and odd-numbered posters will be presented in the afternoon (poster session II).

Poster board dimensions are 60" w x 40" h. Push pins will be provided at the conference. Please DO NOT use poster putty or double sided tape on the poster boards.

Due to space limitations, the maximum number of posters is 175. Please submit your abstracts and poster titles before the registration deadline. No abstract submissions or poster titles will be accepted after we have reached our maximum number or after the registration deadline.

LUNCH

Lunch is FREE and is buffet style. Lunch will include garden veggie salad, pasta salad, fruit salad and a variety of sandwiches (turkey, beef, ham and vegetarian). If you have any special dietary needs (vegan, lactose-free, gluten free, diabetic, Kosher or other) please specify on the registration form.

PARKING

Parking is FREE on levels P5 and P6 of RAMP 1 on Michigan Street. Please park only in the VAI parking spaces on levels P5 and P6. Please DO NOT enter the parking ramps at the Secchia Center or the Helen DeVos Outpatient Center.

Please note that RAMP 1 is located directly across the street from Immanuel Lutheran Church.

When entering the parking ramp, please take a pink parking ticket at the gate. You will receive a white validated parking ticket at the conference which validates your parking when exiting the parking ramp. When exiting the parking ramp, please submit the pink parking ticket first and then the white validated parking ticket.

From levels P5 and P6 of the parking ramp, conference attendees will take the 25 Michigan Street ELEVATORS located in the CENTER of the parking ramp to the lobby (same level as food court) of the Spectrum Health Building. Please exit the Spectrum Health Building and cross Michigan Street heading south on Bostwick Avenue to Van Andel Research Institute. DO NOT USE the VAI/VARI employee entrance or the VAI/VARI elevators located on the south side of the parking ramp.
