The 2018 Waco Domestic Violence Conference brings you an amazing lineup of speakers from a variety of professions to explore how we as a community can come together to address and prevent domestic violence. This year will feature more breakout sessions than any previous year. Topics will include sessions on strangulation crimes, teens and digital abuse, spiritual abuse, trauma-informed care, case studies, and more.

The conference is open to professionals from anywhere in Texas.


KEYNOTE SESSION

Kelsey McKay, "VALIDATING VOICES"

Kelsey McKay trains and consults nationally for communities to implement protocol in various fields including intimate partner violence, child abuse, sexual assault, the use of expert witnesses, translating trauma and other complex topics. She was a prosecutor in Travis County, Texas for twelve years. For six years she exclusively prosecuted strangulation related crimes ranging from assault, sexual assault to capital murder. She has developed and implemented protocol for strangulation and domestic violence response and treatment. To that end she has strengthened how communities collaborate, investigate, treat and prosecute strangulation and intimate partner cases.

There is no group block/rate for hotels for this year's conference, but you can find a list of hotels near the conference site here. Please note that Oct 28 is part of the Iron Man competition in Waco and hotels are filling up fast, so make sure to reserve a room soon if you will be needing one.

FAQs

Will CEUs be provided?

Yes. Six (6) hours of continuing education will be available for Social Work, LPC, LMFT, TCOLE, CLE, and CJAD (family violence). These hours will also count for family violence hours for the Texas Center for the Judiciary (TCJ). *CLE, CJAD, and TCJ hours pending approval.
