Event description

Description

The Seattle Sports Marketing Conference & Career Fair will launch Oct. 15-16, 2018 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. This will bring forward some of the top leaders in the sports industry, provide educational opportunities for university students, and career opportunities for those looking to break into the sports world.

Our mission statement is to democratize sports business.

The Seattle Sports Marketing Convention will have several educational tracks with some of the top speakers in the sports industry. Those tracks include:

- Breaking/Working In Sports

- Sports Media/PR/Journalism

- eSports

- Sports Law

- Sports Sustainability/Social Responsibility

- Sports Technology/Analytics

- Sports Marketing/Promotions

- Sports Sponsorship

- Sports Sales Training

- Sports Apparel

- Sports Venues

& more tracks to come.

The 2018 Career Fair will have a "speed dating" career fair with hiring managers from professional teams/organizations around the country. It is an additional fee and participants will have 5-8 minutes per hiring manager to give their personal elevator pitch, answer interview questions, and hand over their resume for a chance to break into the sports industry.

Autograph Alley, presented by Arsenal Promotions, will provide the ability for those seeking meet their favorite sports stars as well as book authors, gaining a streamlined process with limited inventory.

Conference Book Author & Autograph Program, will provide attendees with access to select sports author readings, engage with the authors afterward as well as the ability to get their books signed at the conference. We've set it up so that you can order their books ahead of the conference, and have them delivered to the conference site, to ease the issue of leaving a book home that you wanted to get signed.

These current selections for the 2018 conference are:

- 100 Things Sounders Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die by Author Geoff Baker (Triumph Books, Published August 2018). Baker is the beat reporter for the Seattle Sounders FC, and a sports business columnist with The Seattle Times.

- At The Edge by Steve Trafton (Createspace, 2018). In his autobiography, Trafton takes you on some of his most harrowing expeditions. He explains how he survived a massive avalanche on a remote Baffin Island mountain and attempted to drive the 8,500-mile Paris to Peking rally in a car from 1915! Along the way, Trafton devoted much of his time to exploring the Arctic and other isolated points around the world. It was in these remote locations that Trafton learned the most about himself and his goals in life.

- Sounders FC: Authentic Masterpiece: The Inside Story of The Best Franchise Launch In American Sports History – Michael Gastineau (Createspace, 2018). It sounds like the start of a great joke: A minor-league sports executive, one of the richest men in the world, a stand-up comedian, and a Hollywood movie producer conspire to start a soccer team. But what Adrian Hanauer, Paul Allen, Drew Carey, and Joe Roth did when they started the Seattle Sounders FC was no joke.

- 20 Secrets to Success For NCAA Student-Athletes Who Won’t Go Pro – Rick Burton (Ohio Press, 2018). The vast majority of student-athletes dreaming of athletic stardom won’t make it to the pros. Yet, the discipline and skills they’ve developed while balancing a sport and academics make them ideally suited for satisfying careers elsewhere.

Networking Night provides the ability for young professionals to gain extra time with each other in a casual setting. The actual location(s) are TBA until we get a final head count but will be within the city limits of Seattle.

Student Shark Tank will provide high school and college participating students with the ability to compete in teams against each other on a corporate sponsorship challenge. There are be multiple teams per school, and students can mix/match with members from other schools. This is a great educational exercise for both the students and those judging the competition.

1-on-1 Mentoring Sessions are set up between students and selected sports business professionals in advance of the conference. This is not just a resume a review. This is about seeking out ways to improve at the sports marketing conference and maximize the results when getting to conference.

Sports Movie Night are to be held at the AMC Pacific Place 11. Film(s) are TBA currently, however, those who buy a sports movie night ticket by July 15 will receive a survey monkey poll to select their movie as well as their MC. Trust us, this will be a fun experience for those looking for something unique.

FAQs

Can you explain your ticket pricing policy?

We operate on a "you snooze, you lose" policy of ticket pricing, which is broken down for someone to buy a one day pass on either Oct. 15 or Oct. 16, or they can purchase the full conference pass for both dates. There are only a certain amount of tickets per price level, which means that once those tickets are gone, the next price available may be higher. Single day passes start at $10, a conference pass starts at $15, and they go up incrementally based on purchased demand. NOTE: It is wise to purchase your tickets early as the price will not go down or remain static once ticket inventory is all go for a specific price level. This includes add-on items such as the career fair and once inventory for networking nights, autograph alley, etc are gone, they are gone for good.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

There is no minimum age, however, it is best recommended that below the age of 16, the options for sports career employment will be minimal to start.
