Giving officers the tools to help each other

Officers will learn the skills required to provide peer support, public safety specific resources and when and how to make an effective referral. Personal accounts and an adult learning model will be used to foster dialogue and discussion. This training has been offered to the CT State and Municipal Police since 2007.

Specific areas to be covered:

  • Active listening skills
  • Maintaining healthy boundaries
  • The difference between peer support and counseling
  • Maintaining confidentiality among peers
  • Effects of cumulative, chronic stress on the mind and body
  • How to identify and refer peers struggling with compulsive  behaviors
  • or addictions including gambling and substance abuse
  • Physiological response to acute stress
  • Post -Traumatic Stress
  • Relationship issues
  • Substance abuse, gambling and other addictions
  • Domestic violence
  • Bereavement and grief
  • Suicide assessment and referral
  • Healthy life skills for stress management
  • Model policy regarding peer support and confidentiality
  • Connecticut’s current gun laws related to inpatient mental health services
  • Public Safety vetted resources and making effective referrals
  • Critical incident Stress Management

 

The Peer Support Training Faculty consists of Law Enforcement Professionals with extensive experience leading successful Peer Support Teams and experts in the field of law enforcement mental health.

Class times are 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM unless otherwise indicated

CT Alliance to Benefit Law Enforcement.

CABLE is a non-profit organization specializing in trauma-informed mental health training for law enforcement and other criminal justice personnel and their mental health partners. Law enforcement and civilian faculty provide Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training and Law Enforcement Peer Support training to municipal, state and federal law enforcement agencies within Connecticut. 

In addition, CABLE offers De-escalation Training to all public safety personnel and civilian groups.

CABLE also acts as an information and referral resouce to public safety personnel during times of personal and/or profession crises and provides Critical Incident Stress Management assistance for public safety agencies upon request.
