2018 Organ Crawl Promises a Showcase of Sound and History, Highlighting Four Historic Organs and Iconic Churches in Cathedral Square

Join the Cathedral Square Neighborhood Association and the Syracuse Chapter of the American Guild of Organists for the 2018 presentation of the Organ Crawl. On Sunday afternoon, April 29, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm, four locally and internationally renowned organists will delight the senses by taking listeners through a musical tour of the majestic organs at Plymouth Congregational Church, St. Paul’s Syracuse The Downtown Episcopal Church, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and Park Central Presbyterian Church. This is the first time since 2015 that all four churches have been able to participate – and the first time that the Cathedral’s Roosevelt Organ has been featured since the sanctuary’s $12 million renovation, completed last year.

The listening tour will begin at Plymouth Congregational Church promptly at 1:30 pm, April 29, and conclude with a reception at the Park Central Presbyterian Church Parish House, following the last performance (expected to start around 4:00 pm).

Tickets may be purchased in Advance (through this site or reserved by calling Alice at 315-470-1953) for $12 until 12:00 Noon on Thursday, April 26. On the day of the event, tickets may also be purchased for $15 at the door, prior to the start of the first performance at Plymouth Congregational Church. For planning purposes, ticket sales will start at approximately 12:45 pm that day.

The Cathedral Square Neighborhood Association (CSNA) is pleased to announce that four of the area’s most accomplished organists will be playing. Attendees will enjoy musical selections played by:

  • Joseph Downing,Music Director at Plymouth Congregational Church
  • Alan Lynch, Interim Director of Music at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
  • James Potts, Organist and Choirmaster at St. Paul’s Syracuse The Downtown Episcopal Church
  • Will Headlee, Organist at Park Central Presbyterian Church

Each organist will play for approximately 25 minutes in their respective home churches, taking the audience through a symphony of sound, showing off the organs in a way you’ve never heard before. Event organizers will lead the crowd to the second, third and fourth stops along the listening tour. For planning purposes, the churches are all located within a half-mile radius of one another. In addition to beautiful music, the Organ Crawl also highlights historic facts about each church and organ.
