Description

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Special Olympics, November 3-4, 2018 at Greektown Casino-Hotel and the International Banquet Center in Detroit.

Friends, family, volunteers and supporters are invited to join us in celebrating 50 years of empowerment, 50 years of changing lives and 50 years of building a more inclusive world as we celebrate 50 years of Special Olympics!

The November Conference and Hall of Fame Banquet take place at the International Banquet Center with housing at Greektown Casino-Hotel.

Saturday, November 3

November Conference: Day 1

  • 9:00 am - 10:00 am: Registration
  • 9:00 am - Noon: ELAC meeting
  • 10:00 am - 10:45 am: Meet SOMI's new CEO, Tim Hileman
  • 11:00 am - 11:45 am: Group mixer
  • Noon - 1:15 pm: Lunch, Years of Service Awards, Celebration
  • 1:30 pm - 3:15 pm: Mission Moments - Athlete and Parent Leadership Speaker

Hall of Fame Banquet & 50th Anniversary Celebration

  • 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm: Cocktail and social hour
  • 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm: Hall of Fame Banquet and 50th Celebration featuring Keynote Speaker Ron Fournier, Outstanding Service Awards and Hall of Fame induction ceremony
  • 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm: 50th Anniversary Celebration and Dance

Sunday, November 4

November Conference: Day 2

  • 8:00 am - 9:00 am: Breakfast served
  • 9:00 am - 10:00 am: Regional Breakout Sessions
  • 9:00 am - Noon: Coaches training - snowshoe and cross country skiing
  • 9:00 am - 1:00 pm: CPR training and Games Management System (GMS) Training
  • 10:00 am - Noon: Area Director 1-on-1 time with CEO Tim Hileman (register for times at the conference)
  • 10:00 am - Noon: Area Management Team Breakout Sessions
  • Noon - 1:00 pm: Lunch served

FAQs

If I'm on the area management team, do I need to purchase tickets?

Check with your area director to see whether or not you are being registered separately through the state office. Most area directors register their management team members through the state office so areas will receive one bill following the conference.

If I'm only attending the November Conference, do I need a ticket?

Yes. If you are only attending the November Conference, do not need housing and are not attending the Hall of Fame Banquet, you must still purchase a free ticket to the November Conference. This will allow us to register you and also get a proper headcount for attendance and meals.

Is this going to be fun?

That's a big YES! For real, it's going to be a fantastic celebration! But it won't be as fun if you aren't there, so be sure to join us!
