WHERE: Bethune-Cookman University's L. Gale Lemerand School of Nursing, located at 739 W. International Speedway Boulevard, Daytona Beach, FL 32114

WHO: This event is co-organized by faculty, staff, and students from Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona State College, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The effort is supported by the Florida Department of Transportation's reThink Your Commute program.

The Community Festival, which starts at 9:00 a.m., will include a kid-friendly bicycle safety rodeo and a transportation information fair. Even if you do not plan on joining us for the bike ride, this fun, free event will be a great way to learn about your transportation options and receive a free bike helmet. Attendees may enter a raffle to win a bicycle, helmet, bike lights, and a lock.

Special thanks to our transportation partners, including Votran, the River to Sea Transportation Planning Organization, FDOT's Alert Today Alive Tomorrow initiative, and the Florida Bicycle Association.

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?

We encourage people of all ages and abilities to join us for the Community Festival and the Florida premier of the documentary "Why We Cycle."

However, children will not be allowed to participate in the 10:00 a.m. bike ride.

How long is the bike ride?

The bike ride is approximately 6.5 miles. The route goes from Bethune-Cookman University to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to Daytona State College and back to Bethune-Cookman University.

We will be traveling in regular travel lanes and using shared-use paths where available. It will be slow-paced and escorted by City of Daytona Beach police officers.

We anticipate that the ride will take approximately 1 hour, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

We ask that everyone who joins the bike ride sign a liability waiver.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

A free bike valet will be available at Bethune-Cookman University in the School of Nursing parking lot. The bike valet will be a safe place to park your bike before and after the bike ride so you can enjoy the transportation information fair and the film "Why We Cycle." Any bicycles that are not picked up by 1:30 p.m. will be considered donations.

Votran routes 18, 19 and 60 serve the International Speedway Boulevard corridor. Routes 18 and 19 provide service every 60 minutes; route 60 provides service every 30 minutes. Visit to view schedules and plan your trip.

If you drive to the event, we encourage you to carpool with friends and family. Free motor vehicle parking is available across the street at the Michael & Libby Johnson Center for Civic Engagement. If you are unfamiliar with the Bethune-Cookman University campus, we encourage you to view their campus map before traveling to the event. The closest intersection to cross the street is at the corner of International Speedway Boulevard and Lincoln Street. A special gift will be provided only to those who safely cross the street at this intersection.

What can I bring into the event?

If you are joining us for the bike ride, please bring your bike, a helmet, and a water bottle.

No alcohol is permitted as part of this event.

Do I have to bring a ticket to the event?

No physical tickets are needed to attend the events.

After you register online, we will include you on a list of attendees. We do ask that people participating in the bike ride visit the "REGISTRATION" tent at the event to check-in and confirm your review of the liability waiver.

This says "Bike Week" but this event is for only one day. Are there other events happening this week?
