Cal Poly's annual Marketing Career Conference (MCC) is co-hosted by the Cal Poly American Marketing Association and the Orfalea College of Business Marketing Department. The MCC connects Cal Poly students with industry professionals looking to fill marketing and sales positions at their company. The MCC features a networking session with companies, informative panels with industry experts, a keynote speaker, a creative showcase competition (see info below to apply and compete for $100), and a pitch competition. This year's keynote speaker will be Laine Riley, a project manager in brand innovation at Salesforce.


WHEN: February 9th from 8:30AM to 2:00PM

WHERE: Performing Arts Center

DAY-OF SCHEDULE:

8:30 - 9:00AM: Exclusive Networking Session for Registered AMA Members

9:00 - 10:10AM: Pitch Competition, Pitch Awards, and Creative Showcase Awards

10:10 - 10:45AM: Keynote Speaker - Laine Riley, Project Manager in Brand Innovation at Salesforce

10:45 - 11:00AM: Break (Food & Beverages Provided)

11:00 - 11:30AM: Industry Panels - Goals, Preparation, Success

11:45 - 2:00PM: General Networking Session


Apply to the Creative Showcase for a chance to compete for $100 at the MCC:

CATEGORIES:

  • Logos - created for a fictitious company or organization already in existence

  • Marketing Collateral - brochures, pamphlets, or inforgraphics for a ficticious business already in existence

JUDGING CRITERIA:

Creatives from the marketing industry will judge work with the following criteria:

Logos: 1) Appropriate use of design elements such as colors, textures, shapes, themes, and typography. 2) The reproducibility of the logo across various forms of media. 3) Quality of illustration and/or overall design.

Marketing Collateral: 1) Appropriate use of design elements such as colors, textures, shapes, themes, and typography. 2) Follows appropriate Principles of Design such as balance, proportion, scale, emphasis, rhythm, and unity. 3) Quality of the overall design.


Submit your work digitally to calpolymcc@calpoly.edu by Wednesday, January 24th, by 11:59PM to be considered as a participant for the Creative Showcase.

  • Use the subject line “Creative Showcase Competition Entry - [YOUR NAME]”

In the body of your email, include the following:

    • The size specifications you will print your submission to if your work is accepted

    • An attached, one page, 1.5 spaced profile of the business for each of your entries. Consider the following questions as a guide for writing the business profile: who is the business, where is it located, how large or small is it, what is the product or service, who is the target market, how does the business fulfill the target market's needs, what image does the business hope to portray to the target market?

After digital submissions have been reviewed, the selected entries will be chosen and you will be contacted by Friday, January 26th. If your work is approved for the Creative Showcase, you will print out your entry and bring it to the Marketing Department office (03-403) between Monday, January 29th, and Friday, February 2nd by 2:00PM.


*If your work was created for an organization that already exists, you must get written proof of permission from the organization to use its name
