Event description

What: This forum will engage health system champions in peer-to-peer learning and networking to spread innovation with the aim of improving children’s health (prenatal to age 17). A special emphasis will be placed on CCO early childhood incentive measures and cross-sector collaboration. CCO and clinic staff, cross-sector partners and other health system champions will present projects, discuss learnings and share best practices in cross-sector innovations and health system transformation. Sharing will take place in café-style rounds and through plenary sessions.

Pediatrician and 2015-2016 Oregon Health Authority Clinical Innovation Fellow R.J. Gillespie will provide the keynote plenary. He will present on the impacts of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and social determinants on child health and wellness; his clinical research in screening for parents’ ACEs in pediatric settings; and a vision for preventing the lifelong effects of ACEs through partnerships across sectors.

A draft event agenda will be available mid-April.

When: June 12, 2018, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Where: Salem Convention Center (tentative)

Cost: No charge to attendees.

Lodging: The Grand Hotel in Salem (which is connected to the Salem Convention Center) has offered OHA a group rate for hotel rooms. Please call the hotel directly at 503-540-7800 to reserve a hotel room. The group rate is based on room availability.

Call for Projects

Much of the day will be spent in small-group table discussions. If you'd like to present a project, please be sure that it addresses one of the following topic areas:

  • 2018 CCO challenge pool metrics:

-Childhood immunization status

-Developmental screening in the first 36 months of life (and follow-up to screening)

-Assessments within 60 days for children in DHS custody

-Prenatal and postpartum care: Timeliness of prenatal care

  • Cross-sector partnerships for early childhood health (ages birth to five), including social determinants of health (for example, CCO and early learning hub working together to provide parenting supports; CCO working with food bank or farmers market to improve food security for children)

  • Oral health integration for improved child outcomes

Please submit your brief proposal here. Additional proposal parameters are included in the Survey Monkey link.

Presentation format: Informal 20-25 minute small-group table discussions. Presenters will share a short project overview, along with a one-page handout, then facilitate a discussion on the topic including project implementation, dissemination and sustainability. Presentations may be repeated. Please note that some project submissions may be seleted for a panel-style plenary presentation rather than small-group sharing.

Important dates:

  • Call for projects open: January 19

  • Project proposals due: March 23

  • Applicants informed of decisions: April 20

  • Presenter preparation webinars (must attend one): May 29, 1-2 p.m.; May 31, noon-1 p.m.
