Event description

Description

The PossePlus Retreat is a space where students, faculty and staff come together to discuss a topic relevant to our community. The Posse Foundation will provide outstanding lead facilitators who will guide us in group discussion, presentations, reflections and interactive activities.

This spring, more than 5,500 students at 55 colleges and universities across the United States will engage in dialogue about Hope, Hate and Race in the United States. This is a rare opportunity for you to take part in this important national conversation.

FAQs

How do I get to the retreat?

The University has arranged transportation for all students, faculty and staff. We will meet at the Hansen Center at 3:00 to load the buses no later than 3:30pm. We prefer that all participants ride together. Faculty and staff who need to bring their own vehicle should contact Karla Carney-Hall for more information.

What is the schedule for the retreat?

We will gather in Hansen at around 3:00, with plans to load the buses no later than 3:30pm. The drive is approximately 2 hours. We will have full activity days Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including late evenings both Friday and Saturday. Friday's schedule is 5:30-10:00. Saturday's schedule is 8:00am-11:30pm (with an afternoon break for recreation from 4:00-6:00). Sunday's schedule is 8:00-11:00am, with box lunches on the way back to campus. We will return to campus by 2:00pm.

Can I participate in only part of the retreat?

No. The Posse Plus retreat is an opportunity to have deep, critical discussions about social justice issues in our community. Trust, active listening, and full participation is essential in meeting the learning objectives for the retreat.

What are the housing accommodations?

Students will be housed in single-sex, bunk-style group lodging (a minimum of 7 students/room). Students will be assigned rooms by gender identity. Faculty/staff/alumni will be housed in motel style lodging with a roommate of your choice. Single rooms may be available depending on participation. Please contact Dean Karla with any specific housing needs (kcarneyh@iwu.edu).

What should I bring to the retreat?

Please bring toiletries, comfortable clothing and snacks (for your personal preferences). Students should bring a bedding for a twin bed (sleeping bag or sheet/blanket) and a pillow. There is an indoor swimming pool that will be available during the recreation time on Saturday. You will need your swim suit and a towel; modesty is an expectation of the retreat center. If you do not have bedding, please let us know and we will help with accommodations.

Will vegetarian or other dietary options be available?

Yes. Please indicate on your reservation that you have specific dietary needs.

Is there any cost to attend?

No. All meals, snacks, transportation, housing and materials are covered.

Once I register, will I get more details?

Yes -- closer to the retreat, you will receive more detailed information. If we are experiencing inclement weather, we will be in touch with any changes to our plans.

**When registering, please use your school email address.**
