Date and time

Mon, Feb 12, 2018, 9:30am - 8:00pm (O'ahu folks that plan to sleep at home: we don't want to keep you too late but please plan to stay until 8pm; the rest of the evening will be informal launa + cruising.)
Tues, Feb 13, 2018, 9:00 am - 3:00pm

** Optional day Feb 14 to do informational visits with your representatives at the legislature; day end approximately 2pm**

Kahaluʻu, Oʻahu

In the first few years of the hui (2004-2006) the gatherings consisted of the core workers/leaders from the participating loko iʻa, but as the hui grew, the gatherings also grew to include students, interns, additional staff, and other supporters (community members, researchers, funders, etc)...which of course is great for many many reasons.

We'd like to shape an opportunity for the poʻo to have more focused dialogue to guide the movement and direction of Hui Mālama Loko Iʻa -- particularly from your perspective as leading kiaʻi of your place, knowing that you have unique needs to take care of your organization and people (mahalo Joylynn for voicing this particular manaʻo in 2016) in addition to ideas on how Hui Mālama Loko Iʻa can collaborate further.

** An optional third day on February 14 is available for you to make informational visits to your representatives in the legislature. We can assist with logistics for ground transportation and setting up meetings, if helpful. **

We understand that contributing to this hui is a commitment of your time away from many other kuleana, so we appreciate your engagement thus far over all these years AND you considering this new opportunity.

Potential agenda items for Feb 12-13 include:

  • how to move on priority issues identified by the hui (e.g., enforcement, wai, coordinating funding)

  • how to lomi the annual survey to reflect how YOU want to measure progress

  • time for you guys to exchange ideas on your own orgs

If you would like to join the planning team for this gathering, please let Brenda know!! (, 291-2340) We are always glad to get your insights, and we'll be bouncing ideas and seeking feedback from all of you in the next three months.
