Event description

Description

A+ College Ready is pleased to bring Dr. Phil Warrick, a Marzano Research Associate, to engage our E3 training consultants in learning The New Art and Science of Teaching. This instructional framework that Dr. Warrick will present on Friday will be the basis for the disciplinle-specific workday on Saturday. Through understanding Marzano’s instructional framework, consultants will begin revising E3 summer training for 2018 to integrate common instructional elements across all curricular courses.

The New Art and Science of Teaching is an instructional framework that comprehensively addresses the well-researched components teachers use to make the most alterable effect on student achievement. One of the major changes in The New Art and Science of Teaching is the focus on student outcomes, as opposed to teacher outcomes. The premise is that teachers who implement instructional strategies will, in turn, help students use mental processes that successively enhance the learning. In other words, it’s not enough to merely use an instructional strategy, but more important to ensure it has the desired learning effect for students.

Learning Outcomes
  • Network and collaborate with trainers from all five disciplines--math, science, English, social studies & computer science

  • Learn the instructional framework needed for high-level instruction, including 3 categories, 10 design questions, and 43 elements

  • Experience various instructional elements for each design question

  • Reflect upon personal strengths and challenges for each instructional element

  • Walk away with a new understanding of effective teaching and learning
