Description

The Dallas Coalition for Hunger Solutions, chaired by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, will host its 7th annual Dallas Hunger Summit on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 9:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

The focus of the 2018 Dallas Hunger Summit is on the intersection of food insecurity and the health of individuals in the greater Dallas area. This half day event will bring together individuals and representatives from over 200+ businesses, nonprofit organizations, diverse faith communities, education and healthcare systems, social service agencies, and government entities to discuss how all in greater Dallas can gain access to nutritious foods.

Speakers and panelists will address the state of health for Dallas area residents, what is being done to recognize food insecurity and malnutrition as a public health problem, implications on local health and medical care, and steps being taken to ensure access to healthy, nutritious food for all.

Speakers and panelists to include:

  • Dr. Donald Wesson, President, Baylor Scott & White Health and Wellness Center

  • Dr. Ray Tsai, Senior Vice President, Market Operations, Children's Medical Center Dallas

  • Dr. Sandi Pruitt, Public Health Researcher and Co-Director, Community Assistance Research, UT Southwestern Medical Center

  • Shannon Huggins, Senior Vice President, Contract Strategy and Population Health, Methodist Health System

  • Representatives from The Cooper Institute and Parkland Health & Hospital System

  • Wende Burton, Community Philanthropy Director, Communities Foundation of Texas

Join us for an opportunity to learn and strategize about "Going from Hunger to Health!" and to be part of the movement for food equity in Dallas! Together we can ensure that all Dallas County residents have access to healthy food, three meals a day, seven days a week.

$25 registration fee. Scholarships are available. Check-in begins at 8:15 a.m. Program begins at 9:15 a.m.
