After early bird registration, regular registration will be $125 (regular) or $60 (student). Walk-in registration is $150.

 

About the Symposium

This two-day event brings together researchers, land managers, students, community leaders, and stakeholders to share practical implications from regional natural resource research and discuss novel ideas for implementing monitoring, research, and management programs.

The purpose of the conference is to do the following:

  • Share practical applications of research and monitoring results to inform adaptive management in the Southwest.
  • Enhance collaboration for regional conservation.
  • Inspire novel approaches to common challenges with hands-on workshops.
  • Foster communication between land managers, researchers, and the public for effective land management.

Welcome address - Dr. Helen Rowe, Field Institute Director, McDowell Sonoran Conservancy

Plenary session - Keynote and plenary speakers each morning

Concurrent session topics:

  • Arid lands restoration
  • Riparian restoration
  • Creating and sustaining cost-effective arid lands research or monitoring programs through citizen science or other means
  • Invasive species in the Southwest
  • Long-term monitoring programs
  • Managing, protecting, and monitoring native wildlife
  • Protecting native species biodiversity
  • International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) - comprehensive assessments for global biodiversity conservation

As Stewards, we connect the community to the Preserve through education, research, advocacy, partnerships and safe, respectful access. The Field Institute is the research center of the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy. The Field Institute's mission is to conduct ecological research through partnerships and citizen science for the long-term natural resource management of Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve, for education, and to contribute to broader scientific knowledge.
