Please join us for APIDC's Fifth Annual Gala on Saturday, November 17, 2018. 

Proceeds from the Gala will be utilized to support APIDC’s programs, including its March 8-9, 2019 Statewide Disabilities Conference, annual Youth Leadership Institute, educational seminars, trainings, peer group convenings, and Pathways pilot project on mental health. 

The Gala will take place in the historic and beautiful Cicada Restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles, 617 S. Olive St. Valet parking and public parking lots on Olive between 6th and 7th Streets.

This year, APIDC is pleased to announce Linda & Gary Yamauchi will receive APIDC’s Community Award for their exemplary leadership in supporting countless causes over the years. After a 30 year career with Southern California Edison, Linda has served as an appointed member on the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging, the Executive Board of Little Tokyo Service Center, and the Center for Asian Pacific American Women. She has received many awards, including from the Greater Los Angeles YWCA and the LA County Commission on the Status of Women. Gary served on the Alhambra City Council since 2004, including as Mayor three times. The owner of Tri-Star Vending, he employs 25% of his staff from Homeboy Industries. Gary also has served on the boards of many nonprofits, including the Go For Broke National Education Center. He has also received numerous awards, including the Citizen of the Year Award from the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce. In 2017, through Gary and Linda’s leadership and guidance, APIDC sponsored a ground-breaking educational community fair to raise awareness about disabilities. The event, called "Walk N Roll", was held at The Alhambra, with the generous support of developer Wayne Ratkovich.

The corporate award will be presented to PlayStation, which has endeavored to include consumers with disabilities in its products. PlayStation’s ground-breaking PS4 transformed the gaming experience for individuals with disabilities by providing the ability to completely redesign the controller options to fit each gamer’s needs, text to speech, inverse colors, closed captioning, high contrast, and text enlargement. These accessibility options opened the doors for those with muscular disorders, visual and hearing impairments,  and many other individuals who faced difficulty accessing video games. In addition, PlayStation strives to develop games that are accessible to all gamers.  PlayStation has been recognized for its accessibility endeavors on PS4 and its VR headset. Sony Interactive Entertainment holds annual major events concerning accessibility for its users. By putting accessibility on the forefront, PlayStation is constantly “making the impossible possible”. 


The volunteer award will be presented to Voices of Ability, a student founded and run disabilities advocacy organization at Arcadia High School.

Prize: Hawaiian Vacation Package, which consists of a stay at a first class resort and 80,000 complimentary HawaiianMiles to use toward travel redemption on Hawaiian Airlines (Must have a HawaiianMiles account to redeem. HawaiianMiles must be deposited by December 17, 2018).

Raffle ticket prices: $10 for one ticket, $20 for 3 tickets, $50 for 8 tickets

To purchase raffle tickets by mail, download Raffle Purchase Form, fill out, and mail with payment to: APIDC, 905 E.8th St., Los Angeles, CA 90021. Please read the rules on the form.  For tickets ordered by mail, payment must be received by November 16 to be eligible for the drawing. Tickets will also be sold at the Gala on November 17.

Asians and Pacific Islanders with Disabilities of California (APIDC) gives a voice and a face to Asians and Pacific Islanders (APIs) with physical, mental, and developmental disabilities. We seek to help break down the service and cultural barriers faced by APIs with disabilities, to provide knowledge to APIs with disabilities and their families, and to create a community network for empowerment and independence.

Key to our mission is the development of the next generation of leaders—youth with disabilities.
