Event description

Description

You are invited to attend the 2018 annual Bay of Connections and Regional Growth Programme (RGS) Forum in Rotorua on Friday, 3 August 2018.

Last year we celebrated a significant milestone for Bay of Connections, reaching a decade since our formation. Evolving over the years, our vision remains the same – to create a prosperous region supported by sustainable sectors.

The upcoming yearly forum provides an important opportunity for the Bay of Connections to engage with key stakeholders from across the region, share the latest developments and new opportunities, and provide the mechanism through which we can all work together to share our vision.

The forum will highlight and discuss the progress and actions achieved, engaging with action leads and others during round-table discussions.

We have also extended an invitation to local MPs and Government Ministers to join us.

Date: Friday 3 August 2018, 10am

Background:

The Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Growth Study (RGS) was launched in May 2015, in partnership between the Bay of Connections at a regional level and the Ministries of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and Primary Industries (MPI) at a central government level.

In October 2015, an Action Plan was launched to map out how the key opportunities identified in the RGS could be realised. The Action Plan includes nine key priority sectors; agribusiness, aquaculture, education and skills, forestry and wood products, geothermal, horticulture, Maori land utilisation, visitor economy and water.

Driving economic opportunities for the wider Bay of Plenty and maintaining the momentum on the regional growth programme continues to be an ongoing focus. This is particularly relevant this year, as we move through the review of the Bay of Connections growth strategy and supporting action plan to ensure it is relevant and successful for our region.

There have been a number of significant developments in the past six months, including the launch of the Provincial Growth Fund and the establishment of Te Uru Rākau in Rotorua. These have served to support and accelerate our regional growth development efforts.
