Enjoy a day-long program of educational sessions on finanical and estate planning, advance care planning, aging in place, fall prevention and caring for individuals with dementia. Expand your knowledge on aging issues and prepare for your future! Lunch is provided.


About this Event

Join us for the Annual Aging Conference on November 9th at the K.E. White Center in Elizabeth City.

The Albemarle Commission Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with the Eastern Area Health Education Center, is offering FREE educational sessions to assist individuals with planning for their future. The keynote speaker is Mark Maland, Retired Attorney. Mr. Maland has an extensive background in Elder Law and will be sharing information on Healthcare Power of Attorney, Living Wills, Guardianship and Medicaid Eligibility. Participants will also hear from Grant Crutchly, Certified Aging In Place Specialist and owner of Atlantic Mobility. Mr. Crutchly will provide information on available technology that can assist older aduls to live independently in their homes.

Additionally, participants will get the opportunity to attend two of the following three breakout sessions:

  1. The Hello Game, presented by Ellie Ward, BSN, RN, Community Outreach and Education Coordinator for Vidant Health. This game gets people talking about end-of life issues in a way that's easy and non-threatening. Participants will learn ways to talk to their family and friends about living and dying well.

  2. Falls Prevention, presented by Nicholas Chaber, DPT, Albemarle Home Care & Hospice. Participants will explore new ways to improve balance and lower their risk of falling.

  3. Taking a Positive Approach to Care: Using Teepa's Skills, presented by the ECU-College of Nursing. This session offers an introduction to a Positvie Approach to Care with persons living with dementia based on the Teepa Snow model. Participants will learn basic skills that will make caring for a loved one easier.


Registration is free and includes lunch. An additional fee of $20 is required for those who would like to recieve a Certificate of Attendance for 4.5 contact hours. Those individuals can send payment to the Albemarle Commission AAA at 512 S Church Street, Hertford, NC 27944.


Registration ends 10/28/2018 and tickets are limited to 200 guests.
