Meet flower farmer Mel Resendiz and learn about his family’s flower farming history while enjoying an artisan dinner and taking in views of myriad protea varieties growing across steep nearby hillsides.

Your Experience

Your dinner experience will include a feast for the eyes thanks to the innovative tablescapes featuring farm-fresh flowers designed by a renowned American floral designer.

You'll also enjoy a multi-course artisanal meal alongside flower aficionados like yourself, while learning about the value of buying and supporting Certified American Grown Flowers.

The Flowers

Proteas are the oldest flowering plants on Earth, dating back as far as 300 million years and featuring more than 70 genera. These beauties thrive in northern San Diego county, but are native to the Southern Hemisphere, mostly Australia and South Africa.

Resendiz Brothers grows an extensive selection of protea, as well as pincushions, Banksia, kangaroo paws, Leecadendron, wax flowers and a variety of filler flowers.

Known for their long vase life, protea are said to symbolize diversity and courage.

The Flower Farm

As California’s largest supplier of South African and Australian floral products and plants, Resendiz Brothers is a flower farm in full-on growth mode. The specialty protea it grows have skyrocketed in popularity, thanks to demand from florists, large bouquet companies and on-trend brides.

That’s why Resendiz Brothers has purchased the additional land and will begin clearing and planting it over the next three years. The farm is also adding new varieties like gorgeous new hybrid Leucospermum “pincushions” from Hawaii and new flowers from Australia and South Africa.

This long-established farm is known nationwide for its leadership in growing protea. Mel Resendiz, president of the International Protea Association, is a beloved flower farmer with a reputation for growing the most beautiful protea varieties in the U.S. Meeting Mel and hearing his story will truly be a life-changing experience.

The Designer

Floral designer Rene Van Rems, a renowned ambassador to the floral industry, will bring his unique style to the Fallbrook tablescapes. A top speaker, educator and demonstrator who has led workshops and design shows in the U.S., Europe and Asia, Van Rems is also frequently featured at art museum events, including "Arts Alive" in San Diego.

Van Rems is recognized for bringing the European influence to American floral designs, and his work has been featured in Better Homes & Gardens, Sunset Magazine and on HGTV. He was formally educated at the prestigious Rijksmiddelbare Tuinbouwschool Floral Insitute at Aalsmeer.

We can't wait to see what he'll do with hundreds of protea!
