About this Event

30TH ANNIVERSARY SCREENING OF "SCHOOL DAZE"

The Issue of BLACKNESS + Consciousness +Community

A not so popular young man wants to pledge to a popular fraternity at his historically black college.

The 2018 Season of African American Cultural Center is entitled "The Issue of Blackness + ___________." Our season of offerings will explore the intersections of Blackness with the concepts of freedom, voice, identity formation, and erasure. We will critically examine how the people from the African diaspora demonstrate agency and resistance against systems of oppression.

In partnership with the Africana Studies program, we present the African Diaspora Film Series. Each film will give us a unique opportunity to investigate the intersections of the film subject’s oppression and allow us to consider our understanding of the impact of systemic oppression on the lives of Black people.
