Event description

Description

Parties of environmental and public policy disputes often bring vastly different ways of "knowing" to these discussions: difference between experientially or intuitively derived information, spiritual sources, stories of elders or expert knowledge, scientific investigations or differences in ultimate goals. These different perspectives are usually at the root of conflicts. Helping people see other perspectives is often the key to helping parties overcome impasse and reach agreement. How we ”know” the truth is very much tied to culture, which means that cross-cultural communication is very much part of bridging the divide.

Theme: We Can Work It Out - Practices, Tools and Stories for Helping Parties Bridge the Divide

Dates: June 13th and 14th, plus Pre-Conference Training Day on June 12th

Location: George Mason University (outside of Washington, D.C.)
