Event description

Description

The 2018 national conference at Columbia College Chicago, Illinois explores the history, art, and aesthetics of Black Sexuality and Relationships. Romantic and kinship relational challenges have emerged from enslavement, familial separation, poverty, systemic and religious oppression, mass incarceration, heteronormativity, and white supremacy. The art and aesthetics of Black relationships reveals itself in our resilience and adaptation to complex challenges and has enabled our partnerships, families, and communities to evolve into an array of beautiful montages that exemplify the strength of our heritage. The conference illuminates individual and systemic complexities that impact Black sexual expression and relationships. Finally, this summit during Black History month serves as a platform to facilitate dialogue about intersectionality, issues that affect Black LGBTQAI, gender and reproductive politics, fantasy/desire and kink, and media influences.
