Description

The Idaho Orff chapter is a Merit-Award winning chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association and is excited to offer four days of high-quality professional development from locally and nationally recognized presenters. These workshops will give music educators a chance to refresh their teaching toolbox. For further information and full presenter bios, please see the Idaho Orff Website.

There are various ways to purchase workshop tickets: individually or in multiple-day packages. Click on the box that says "select a date" or "ticket" above to purchase tickets or ticket packages. It doesn't matter which date you choose, you will have access to all of the tickets when you are ready to make your purchase.

  • An Idaho Orff Membership is required for all discounted workshop prices and is also required to be eligible for chapter scholarships.

  • Idaho Orff Members are invited to bring a friend free of charge to either the January or February workshop. Each member will be e-mailed a coupon with a specific code. Members may bring a friend who is a first-time attendee of an Idaho Orff workshop or conference. Please present the coupon code to the registration table at the workshop. Lunch is not included.
  • Full-time college students, retired teachers and first-year teachers may attend any or all of the workshops for only the cost of an Idaho Orff Membership. College and retired Teacher IOSA Member dues are $10.00. First-year teacher IOSA dues are $25.00.

  • The workshop ticket prices below are pre-registration prices. Registrations at-the-door will be an additional $10.00.

  • No refunds will be granted. If you are unable to attend a purchased workshop or have further questions, please contact idahoorff@gmail.com

  • NNU credit is available for attending the workshops and completing lesson plan homework. One credit is available for attending the October 5 and 6 workshop, another will be available by attending both the January and February workshops. Sign-ups and full information will be available at the workshops and on Idaho Orff Website.

Lunches are available for purchase on each of the workshop days for $8.00. While there are fast-food options in the area, we hope you join us for lunch and collaboration time with your colleagues. If you have dietary needs (i.e. gluten-free, vegetarian, dairy-free) please let us know when you purchase your lunches.

January and February menus normally include something like soup, sandwich, salad, chips, dessert and a beverage.

Thursday and Friday, October 4 and 5, 2018 - Clinician: Paul Cribari

Paul Cribari is an Orff Schulwerk teacher in the Cherry Creek School District in Colorado. There, he teaches kindergarten through fifth grade, conducts the school choir and leads the Advanced Percussion Ensemble. Paul received his Master of Arts in Orff Schulwerk from the University of St. Thomas, and his Doctorate in Music Education from Boston University. In addition to his work with children, Dr. Cribari teaches levels I, II, and III of Orff Schulwerk at Southern Methodist University, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the San Francisco International Orff Schulwerk Course. Dr. Cribari is also a regular clinician for local chapters of the AOSA. He received his Orff certification at the University of St. Thomas and has presented sessions at state and local conferences as well as numerous National Conferences of the AOSA.

IOSA board members who’ve attended Paul’s national AOSA workshops are so very excited to have this friendly, engaging, on-the-frontline-facilitator present at our October Professional Development Days!

Description: Local teachers share lessons they gleaned from the AOSA National Professional Development Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio and their own student-tested lesson gems that are sure to engage your students. Saturday, February 23, 2019 - Clinician: Kelly Takunda Orphan

Kelly Takunda Orphan loves to sing, drum and dance! As a vocalist, percussionist, songwriter, and dancer, Kelly has both taught and performed music around the world. She was raised in a family of mixed-heritage musicians in the Bay Area, sang in her church choir, studied piano, voice, and percussion and toured with Babatunde Olatunji before moving to Africa and discovering her deep-rooted passion for music and dance in Zimbabwe. Kelly took a year-long course in Ethnomusicology at the University of Zimbabwe in 1994.

Kelly also holds a BA from San Jose State University in Creative Arts with an emphasis on world music and also has a minor in music. She completed the Orff Schulwerk certification program in 2001 at Mills College in Oakland, CA. She has taught music to children and adults for over 20 years and has taught at various organizations such as NCAOSA (Northern California American Orff Schulwerk), Oakland Youth Chorus, Go Girls!, Born To Drum and more.

Idaho Orff is thrilled to have Kelly as our facilitator for the February 23, 2019 workshop, refreshed after her summer trip to Ghana, Kenya, & Zimbabwe!
