There are 3 8-week skills sessions starting the week of Jan 9th
Mondays (3rd & 4th graders) Jan 9 - Feb. 27, 4:15-5:30PM
Tuesdays (5th & 6th graders) Jan 10 - Feb. 28, 4:15-5:30PM
Thursdays (7th & 8th graders) Jan 12 - March 2, 3:45-5:30PM
Make-up dates will be included in the cost:
Wednesdays (Jan 11, 25, Feb. 8, 22) for all levels would be for any rescheduled session (due to conflicts with school events/weather)
WHAT: The majority of these sessions will be focused on teaching and reteaching the skills needed to be successful in volleyball. Expert club and Valley volleyball coaches along with high school player volunteers will instruct and guide players in their learning. As long as there were no cancelled sessions, the every other Wednesday would be optional attendance dates for players wanting additional reps in game-like environments. The 7-8th grade sessions will also include additional time for game play and scrimmage.
HOW: Players will be divided up on two courts (basic & advanced) to work on skills appropriate for developing the fundamentals needed for success at the higher levels. One lead coach and volunteer high school players will run each court of instruction. The pace and difficulty of the drills will be based on the players on the court. We will do everything possible to put players on the appropriate court. Lots of game play, fun, and learning will take up the majority of each session.
WHY: To provide opportunities for participants to be introduced to, improve upon, and master specific volleyball fundamentals. With so many players participating in the variety of club offerings around the area, this will be a chance for players to come together and develop the fundamentals emphasized throughout Valley’s fall program. Uniformity and consistent language/feedback is key to players at all levels, especially those being instructed at other clubs.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Mondays are for 3-4th graders
Tuesdays are for 5-6th graders
Thursdays are for 7-8th graders
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Pick up and drop off will be on the SOUTH SIDE of the school. Parents staying to watch should park on the south side of the building and enter through the south doors. There is a breezeway for players to wait for pick-up. Because WCC does night school, all players and parents must enter and exit through the south doors (not the main ones).
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Players must bring a water bottle, athletic shoes, and athletic shorts or compression shorts. Don't bring valuables. All bags and coats will be placed on the stairs on the east side of the gym.
