2017 Utah CEC General & Special Education Teacher Conference: “UNLEASHING YOUR POTENTIAL" Come join us for a wonderful educator conference on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Junior High in Murray, Utah. Our keynote speakers will be Dr. Chris Cain & Valerie Faulkner. (See Presenter Bios below) Breakout sessions will include math and reading instruction, transition, behavior management, and much more.
Registration and a continental breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Lunch and an afternoon snack will be served. Please bring your mobile device or printed ticket to check-in.

Chris Cain is a Full Professor in the Education department at Mars Hill University where he holds the positions of coordinator of the M.Ed. Programs, Integrated Education Program and the Unit Assessment Coordinator. He earned a B.A. Degree from Mars Hill in Elementary Education, a M.Ed. in Cross-Categorical (Mild and Severe) Special Education from East Tennessee State University, and a Doctoral Degree in Education Leadership and Policy Analysis with a concentration in research design focusing on assistive technology, from the University System of Tennessee. Dr. Cain is well published and has been awarded and co-authored over 3 million dollars in research grants. He is currently the principal investigator for a Department of Education Grant funded project to examine how to align student assessment data to research-based interventions.
Dr. Cain is a dynamic speaker who has a passion for mathematics, students with special needs and those who work with them. Dr. Cain works with multiple states to help develop teacher understanding and improve the outcomes for all students. He is one of the lead authors of the mathematics professional development modules for the National Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM). He contracts with Michigan’s Integrated Mathematics Initiative (MI2) to assist the state in creating a cohesive and collaborative system of support and professional development among existing mathematics resources as well as development of a scalable research-based trajectory assessment for students who struggle in Mathematics. Dr. Cain has experience in both the general and special education classroom settings.
Valerie Faulkner is a TEaching Assistant Professor in the Teacher Education and Learning Sciences Department at NC State. Her 2012 TEDxNCSU LECTURE "Teaching Math to the Analog Brain in the Digital World" was chosen as lecture of the month by TED later that year. Along with teaching pre-service undergraduates in their transition to the classroom. She is co-author and State Level trainer of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Foundations of Mathematics and is the author of two textbooks designed to support high school students who have not yet been placed in Algebra (Foundations of Algebra, Introduction to High School Mathematics, Walch Educational.)
