Jr. Bee College
Jr. Bee College is offered for children aged 6-12 on the Saturday of Bee College. This is a day filled with hands-on, fun, interactive games and lesson plans about insects, honey bees, and beekeeping. The kids will even get to suit up and see a real bee hive up-close at the end of the day. What a wonderful way to foster a lifetime of love for science and beekeeping!
Jr. Bee College is only available for children with parents/guardians attending Bee College. Please be sure to purchase a ticket (only $10 to cover food costs) at checkout.
Note, Jr. Bee College is geared for younger children. If you think that your child would be able to partake in the full Bee College courses, consider registering them for a Youth ticket instead. Children under 6 are welcome to join you in the main Bee College classes free of charge.
Bee College Honey Show
Bee College participants are encouraged to participate in the 10th annual Bee College Honey Show. Entry is free! Our honey show is one of the largest in the state, so take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to showcase all of your (and your bees’!) hard work. The show will be judged using the Welsh Honey Judge methods by certified Welsh Honey Judges and Stewards, and winners will be announced during the awards ceremony Friday evening. Despite the name, the Honey Show isn’t just for honey! You can submit honey products, art/photography and observation hives too. A “Best of Show” will be chosen from all of the 1st place winners. Rules and submission forms (required) will be posted on www.ufhoneybee.com closer to the event date. Honey Show questions should be directed to Ms. Glinda Burnett (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Welsh Honey Show Judging
Coupled with the UF Bee College Honey Show will be training for Welsh Honey Judging Certification. Welsh Honey Judge Training is the most stringent training for would-be honey judges in the world. Training for the Welsh Honey Judge Examination will be held on friday only. Tickets for training are available at checkout.
Entry-level students are given the opportunity during the Bee College to complete the first two of four requirements: (1) attendance in the Friday afternoon training session, (2) documented experience as a steward (judge’s assistant), (3) documented experience as a senior honey show judge, and (4) successful completion of the oral examination. For students participating in this year’s training, requirement 3 can be fulfilled at your own pace, and the oral exam (requirement 4) will be offered at future Bee College.
For those that have already completed the training at a previous Bee College, the final oral exams are held Friday morning.
Refund requests will be honored in full if submitted prior to March 1st. No refunds will be granted after March 1st.
Registration will be 7am-8am on both days. Doors to the building will not be open prior to 7am.
