2017 Triennial Santa Fe Municipal Airport Full-Scale Exercise

The City of Santa Fe seeks volunteers to be a part of an upcoming emergency response exercise at the Santa Fe Municipal Airport!

The Santa Fe Municipal Airport will hold an emergency preparedness exercise on Saturday, April 8. A simulated aircraft accident will give the airport’s first responders an opportunity to put their emergency plans into action while providing hands-on training to airport and airline staff, hospitals, local jurisdictions and other emergency personnel.


Schedule of Events

6:45-6:59 AM - Volunteers arrive at Christus St. Vincents Regional Medical Center for transportation to exercise location.

7:00 AM - Transportation leaves from Christus St. Vincents Regional Medical Center

7:20 AM - Volunteers arrive at exercise location; doughnuts and coffee provided during briefing and moulage.

Once exercise has begun, volunteers will be transported back to Christus St. Vincents Regional Medical Center via ambulance or bus as part of the exercise.

12:30 PM - Exercise is concluded; volunteers are provided lunch at Christus St. Vincents Regional Medical Center.

FAQs

What should I expect to do as a volunteer?

As a volunteer, you will be portraying individuals who were involved in an aircraft crash. You will be moulaged (applying mock injuries for the purpose of training Emergency Response Teams and other medical personnel) according to various injuries that would be expcted during such an incident. During the exercise you will be outdoors at a mock aircraft crash site where emergency responders will arrive, triage (determine the priority of patients' treatments based on the severity of their injuries) individuals, and transport you via ambulance or bus to Christus St. Vincents Regional Medical Center.


Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

You must be 18 years of age or older to participate in this exercise. All participants will sign a waiver of liability upon arrival at the airport.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Do not go directly to the Santa Fe Airport! Parking will be availale at Christus St. Vincents Regional Medical Center in front of the Medical/Dental building; hospital security will be present to direct you to parking. City busses will then transport you to the hospital. Please arrive at Christus St. Vincents Regional Medical Center by 6:45 AM, transportation will depart at 7:00 AM. Transportation will be provided to the Airport. Volunteers will be transported back to Christus St. Vincents Regional Medical Center as part of the exercise via ambulance or bus.

Will food and/or drinks be provided?

Refreshments in the morning will include coffee and doughnuts provided upon arrival at the airport. Water and snacks will be avilable during the exercise. Following the exercise, lunch will be provided to all participants.


What should I wear and bring to the exercise?

This exercise will take place rain or shine! Please wear clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. Volunteers will be moulaged (applying mock injuries for the purpose of training Emergency Response Teams and other medical personnel) according to various injuries. Please bring a hat, sunscreen, a warm coat or rain jacket (depending on forecasted weather) as the exercise will take place outdoors for up to 2-hours. Please limit the number of personal belongings you bring as there will not be a secured area to store such items.

Are volunteers required to stay the entire time?

Yes, please plan to attend the full duration of the timeline.


Why is the airport doing this?

This exercise will satisfy a requirement from the FAA to complete a full-scale exercise every three years (triennial).
