Do you want to learn effective and innovative strategies for teaching ESL? Join us for the 2017 TexTESOL V Conference. Our theme this year is "Advocacy: Mission Possible."

If you are registering with part of a district or organization, contact asarker@udallas.edu to obtain an invoice and promo code for your group. Participants will be able to use the free code to register themselves, and the organizer will mail the payment to TexTESOL V, P.O Box 1173, Fort Worth, TX 76101.

Keynote: Dr. Michael Hinojosa, Dallas ISD Superintendent

Dr. Michael Hinojosa

Our Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Michael Hinojosa, Superintendent of Dallas ISD. He has a long history in Dallas, having attended DISD schools himself, and is a powerful and inspiring public speaker. Dr. Hinojosa returned to Dallas ISD when he was named by the board of trustees to serve as superintendent in October 2015. Dr. Hinojosa has served 20 years as a superintendent/CEO of six public education systems, including two of the 25 largest school systems in America, Dallas ISD in Texas and the Cobb County School District in suburban Atlanta, Georgia. His career in public education, from teacher and coach to superintendent/CEO, spans more than three decades.

With a firm belief that education and not environment is the key to a student’s success, he has led several school districts to improved student achievement. Dr. Hinojosa’s recognitions include being named 2002 Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards and 2005 Superintendent of the Year by the University of Texas at Austin. He was honored as Distinguished Alumnus by the College of Education at Texas Tech University and as the Outstanding Latino Educator by the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents in 2014. He is a past president of the Texas Association of School Administrators. He has served as an educational consultant for various organizations that support public education, including as a master teacher and coach for the American Association of School Administrators and the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents.

Dr. Hinojosa, a proud graduate of Dallas Independent School District, holds a doctorate in education from the University of Texas at Austin. He and wife Kitty have two sons, graduates of Princeton University and Harvard University. He has a son from a previous marriage who graduated from Texas Tech University. All three attended Dallas ISD for a significant portion of their K-12 careers.


Featured Speaker: Dr. Feyi Obamehinti, Executive Consultant, Ravir LLC


Dr. Feyi Obamehinti

Dr. Feyi Obamehinti has over 20 years of experience in the educational field. Her career spans teaching experiences in elementary, middle school, high school, undergraduate and graduate levels. Her earlier teaching career was in inner city public schools where she excelled in working with underprivileged students. Her passion for student achievement expanded to empowering and equipping educators at all stages of their practice. A regular consultant for state and federal agencies in areas of grant reviews, instructional practices and program evaluations, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti is highly sought after for strategic partnerships at the local, state and national levels.

She is the author of The Cooperative Teacher Handbook, Incorporating Science Apps in Grades 6-12, and The Values of Immigrant Students on Citizenship as a Trait of Character Education. She is the co-author of The Minority Homeschooler’s Guide and Texas Refugee Student Framework. An epitome of excellence in education, Feyi was nominated for the 2007 Teacher of the Year Award in Irving and DFW Teacher of the Year at Texas Virtual Academy. A dynamic international trainer and speaker, Feyi utilizes her expertise in providing leadership and promoting best practices in teaching and learning. In 2010, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti was appointed to the Texas Education Agency State Review for English Language Proficiency Standards to review the Teacher Edition for Proclamation 2010.

In 2013, she was appointed to the review panel for the Texas 2013 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Furthermore, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti is a 2011 Barbara Bush Fellowship Award recipient, a research award that promotes literacy among disadvantaged populations.

Feyi obtained a B.S. in Microbiology from University of Texas at Arlington, a M.S. in Education from Peru State College and a doctorate in education from Texas A&M University at College Station.
