Event Details

“My comfort and confidence level of teaching economics went from low to high in just one week. The instructors provided an authentic learning environment that I know I can replicate in my classroom. On top of that, I have a TON of lesson ideas and resources to share with my peer teachers that can be used to enrich our students' learning experience."

This one-week, 2 credit graduate course helps prepare educators to teach high school economics and builds confidence in those with little background. Providing a solid introduction to the high school MN academic standards in economics, the first half of the week focuses on microeconomics and the second half focuses on macroeconomics. Both content and pedagogy are included, along with hands-on activities and simulations to bring into the classroom. Teachers will leave the course with not only a stronger understanding of economics but also with the tools to teach these concepts to your students.

Participants will also attend a follow-up session during the school year to continue enhancing content knowledge and share with one another. To receive the graduate credit, participants must attend the follow-up session and prepare a final project.

Instructors:

  • Professor Agapitos Papagapitos, Department of Economics, University of St. Thomas
  • Martha Rush, Mounds View High School
  • Adam Rushmeyer, Melrose Area High School

Cost:

  • $80 registration fee
  • $150 participation stipend for summer course, $30 for the follow-up session
