2017 STEM Institute
Monday, June 26, 2017 at 1:00 PM - Friday, June 30, 2017 at 12:00 PM (PDT)
For Team Leads:
If you are the designated Team Lead, you will need to create a team profile. Once you have made your team profile, you will fill out your personal information. When you are finished you will be able to send an email to the rest of your team to invite them to join.
In the past, we have asked for each team to include a community member as one of the five team members. We realized that having a communtiy partner attend for the whole week was a challenge. This year, we are asking Team Leads to identify and work with a community member to attend on Monday and Tuesday, for an additional cost of $300 (this is to cover one night at the hotel, meals and materials). This person will also have the opportunity to be a part of our STEM Showcase. Your community member should also fill out this form.
For Team Members:
If you are Team Member search the teams listed for your team, then fill out the personal information. If you do not see your team, email firstname.lastname@example.org or your Team Lead.
Applications are due on Friday, April 7th, 2017. All team members information should be completed at this time. Once the team lead has established the team and submitted their information we will send you a confirmation. Team Leads will be asked additional questions about the current STEM education program at your distict, school or consortium.
The following criteria will be used by a screening committee to select STEM education leadership teams:
- Evidence of a leadership team with the skills, commitment, and credibility to lead a STEM education effort.
A team that includes:
- an administrative lead with financial decision-making authority
- experienced teacher leaders from the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subject areas (note: teachers do not have to have experience teaching STEM, they can be from one subject area, i.e. a Math teacher)
In your application, the committee will look at the qualifications of individual team members, the team’s willingness to attend and fully participate in all sessions, and the team’s ability to develop and lay the groundwork for implementation of a STEM Education Action Plan.
Acceptance letters will be sent to the Team Lead on April 21st 2017. Teams that have been accepted will be required to provide a PO to Pacific Science Center. This PO will be charged with 10% of the fee for attending if a team withdraws their application after they accept. The 10% can be applied to future attendence of an Institute.
What is the cost of the Institute?
The cost is $6000 for a team of up to five members. Additional team members can be added for $1700 each. Teams from small districts (less than 2,000 students) are eligible for a slightly reduced cost if they are unable to bring five team members. Each team member will be provided all necessary materials; have a private hotel room for four nights; be provided all breakfasts, lunches, and one dinner during the week. Teams will be invoiced by Pacific Science Center after they have been accepted.
Washington State LASER is pleased to announce additional support, generously provided by Boeing, for selected teams. Teams that meet any of the following criteria are eligible for a competitive registration scholarship of up to $4,000 to defray team registration fee of $6000.
Eligible teams may:
- Serve rural regions
- Represent small schools
- Serve a significant population of high-need students such as (migrant, ESL, tribal, free and reduced lunch, etc.)
- Be geographically distant from or need assistance traveling to Lynnwood, WA
To be eligible for the scholarship, the team lead should indicate your interest during the Institute application. We will ask you to explain your need in a supplemental application.
Can I update my registration information?
