Event description

Description

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Special Olympics Colorado (“SOCO”) Healthy Athletes at the State Summer Games presented by Spectrum! The State Summer Games is SOCO’s largest competition of the year, with over 1,000 athletes competing, and an additional 3,000 participating volunteers, family members, coaches, and unified partners!

The Summer Games are held at Colorado State University in Grand Junction, and we will offer Healthy Athletes screenings in four different disciplines on Saturday, June 10. Descriptions for the three disciplines – FUNfitness, Healthy Hearing, Health Promotions, and Special Smiles – can be found in the sign up area above. Volunteering with Healthy Athletes is a great opportunity to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities, and help improve the health of our athletes. With your help, SOCO hopes to screen over 500 athletes at the Summer Games!

CHECK-IN: Please bring a photo ID as this is required to check-in for your volunteer shift. There will be a brief orientation at the start of your shift, so please arrive a few minutes prior to your shift to allow yourself time to park, check-in, and change into your Healthy Athletes t-shirt.

WHAT TO WEAR: Each volunteer will receive a Healthy Athletes t-shirt to wear at the event, so you will be easily identifiable. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and avoid sweatpants.

MEALS: There will be snacks and water for all volunteers- please feel free to bring anything additional you may need!

PARKING: Free parking is available onsite. Maps will be sent out upon signing up to volunteer.

VOLUNTEER SERVICE HOURS: For those needing confirmation of service hours, at the completion of your volunteer shift you may report back to Volunteer Registration for signatures or confirmation forms.

Questions? Please contact Emilie Ricker, Health and Wellness Manager, at ericker@specialolympicsco.org.

We hope you enjoy your volunteer experience. Thank you for donating your time to help ensure our athletes life a healthy lifestyle!
