Description

This training is an opportunity for aspiring advocates -- such as healthcare providers, social workers, family members, and teachers -- to learn about the legislative process and how to become involved. This includes information on civic engagement and elections, as well as how to share their stories through testimony and change legislation.

  • Learn about volunteer and advocacy opportunities to advance a common goal
  • Learn about the legislative process in Hawai‘i and how to participate during the legislative session
  • Understand the election process and how to register to vote
  • Learn how to write effective testimonies to influence policy and legislation
  • Utilize different media strategies for a successful advocacy campaign
  • Meet and hear from state lawmakers on how bill decisions are made and why advocacy is important

This training is hosted by the Hawai‘i Public Health Institute, PHOCUSED, Hawai‘i Appleseed, Hawai‘i Children’s Action Network, and Hawai‘i Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations, groups with a long history of policy work and advocacy in Hawai‘i.
