VOLUNTEER AT THE PLANT SALE!
Volunteer to help bundle and sort plants in preparation for our 31st annual Native Plant Sale! Register online.
For every 4-hour shift, volunteers will receive 1 bundle of native plants!
Address: Evergreen State Fairgrounds, Commercial Building #400 (main parking area)
Every day, there are two volunteer shifts to choose from: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. AND 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Volunteer Dates: Mon. Feb.6; Tue. Feb. 7; and Wed. Feb. 8 and *Thurs. 2/9 (*no afternoon shift on 2/9 - a.m. shift only)
**We also need a select number of volunteers to help with the day of the Plant Sale on Saturday, February, 27th.
What will volunteers be doing exactly? During the weekdays preceding the Saturday Plant Sale, our staff are busy unloading deliveries of native plants and packaging them into select bundles. There are thousands of plants to process before the big sale and volunteers are crucial in helping us.
While volunteering, you can expect to be standing at a table, handling and moving plants. The room at the Fairgrounds is unheated, and depending on the weather, it can get chilly. We recommend wearing warm layers that you don't mind working in or getting a little dirty, and comfortable shoes. If you have your own gloves, please bring them. If not, no worries! We have plenty of extra gloves available to you. There will be training on site, so no special experience is necessary. We will provide light refreshments and snacks.
Special Instructions when you arrive: Please arrive 5-10 minutes early for your shift to allow time for checking-in and so you can enjoy refreshments. We will be starting promptly at the beginning of each shift with a whole group training and orientation. We appreciate your efforts to help our efficiency by arriving on time, so we can avoid repeating instructions. Also, we ask that you please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to your shift. That way, our staff can have adequate time to set-up before each shift.
If you need special accommodations or have any questions, please contact Laura Goff, 425-377-7018 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Plant Sale Background: Each year hundreds of volunteer hours are clocked to help make this event one of the most successful native plant sales in our area. The Native Plant Sale is a one-day event that sells affordable, high-quality native plants to help promote their use on private lands.
Native plants benefit the environment because they are adapted to our climate, and provide vital habitat to native species of animals. They don't need excessive water during the dry summer months to survive and they do well during the wet winters. They are adapted to many of the native soil types in our area and generally flourish with minimal inputs (such as fertilizer or constant watering). They also protect our landscape from invasive species that create monocultures and unsightly brambles.
Each plant we sell = another opportunity to restore and protect precious soil and water resources to benefit salmon, pollinators, wildlife and humans. And, our volunteers make it all possible!
