Description

This year the theme of Restoration. Innovation. Preservation., the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania Hallowed Grounds Project, will be 'Historic Cemetery Legacy Planning: Securing a Future for Our Sacred Sites and Records'.


Register now to join us for a day of learning from veteran cemetery caretakers; sharing experiences and advice with other historians, stewards, geneaologists, students, and other interested parties; or learning about what we do and imagine how you can be involved in this vital work!

9:00am - Registration, networking, and refreshments


10:00am - Welcome and orientation: Barbara Barksdale, Founder PAHGP and Friends of Midland


10:25-11:05am - Carlisle Indian School cemetery session: Barbara Landis, Cumberland County Historical Society


11:15-11:45am - Update on PHMC Underrepresented Communities Grant: Dr. Steven Burg, Shippensburg University; Shelby Weaver Splain, PA State Historic Preservation Office


11:45am-12:30pm - Chat and Chew


12:30-2:00pm - Caretakers Roundtable: Joe Becton, USCT caretaker; Darlene Colon, Stevenson Cemetery; Leroy Hopkins, Bethel AME Lancaster & Millersville University; Moderator: Dr. Steven Burg, Shippensburg University


2:00-3:00pm - Panel and Q&A on archives and historic record keeping and conservation


3:00-3:30pm - Business Meeting (Conclusion, discussion of future events and activities)
