The Orlando Regional is a premier youth robotics event featuring high energy FIRST Robotics Competition teams from around Florida, the nation and the world vying for top awards and a chance at the 2017 FIRST Championship .
FIRST Robotics Competition is one of four FIRST K-12 STEM programs, and challenges high school students around the world to build up to 120 lb. robots in just six weeks, to solve playing field challenges in fast paced matches. Students involved in our program:
- Learn from professional engineers
- Learn to use sophisticated software and hardware
- Compete and cooperate in alliances and tournaments
- Qualify for over $25 million in college scholarships
- Can apply for internships just for FIRST alumni at top companies around the U.S.
The event annually draws over 3500 youth and visitors to an exciting competition focused on inspiring young people to become passionate about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The Orlando Regional is the oldest FIRST Robotics Competition event in Florida, one of the most veteran in the nation, and is an international favorite, annually drawing teams from as far away as Germany, Australia, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, China and Turkey.
The Orlando Regional is free and open to the public (free Eventbrite ticketing will be available in December 2016). The Orlando Regional is organized by the nonprofit Florida FIRST Robotics Education Foundation and 90% volunteer run. Corporate and individual sponsorships and donations help defray event production costs .Your support announces to the tech and engineering community and the general public, your commitment to a high skilled workforce for Florida and the nation, while putting your brand in front of a community interested in science and technology. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, FIRST® K-12 STEM education programs use robot challenges to build science and technology skills and interests, in a character driven program that also inspires self-confidence, leadership, and life skills . In Florida, FIRST serves over 10,000 students. At the high school level, nearly $30 million in scholarships are available to participating students.
