Event description

Description

The 2017 OK Bike Summit takes place May 19-20, 2017 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. We focus on attaining physical and mental well-being through bicycling by addressing how bicycling for individuals with disabilities can bring spiritual and emotional healing, and improve the health of a whole community.

Muskogee has a long tradition of bicycling as the site of the Flower Power Bike Ride along the Arkansas River and through the Ozark foothills. Started in 1991, Flower Power is one of Oklahoma’s oldest annual bicycling events.

On Saturday a bicycle tour starting at the Cherokee Nation Capital Building in Tahlequah will travel along part of the newly created Trail Of Tears Historic Bike Route. The route commemorates the tragedy of the removal of Native Americans from their homes and lands in the southeast United States to the Indian Territory which became Oklahoma.

The Mission of the OK Bike Summit: Present a biennial statewide conference promoting bicycling as a life-long activity, a viable mode of transportation, an economic benefit for the citizens of the State of Oklahoma, and an all around good thing to do.
