Description

Every year, Children’s Defense Fund-Minnesota publishes a KIDS COUNT Data Book. The Data Book provides state data based on a variety of indicators that show the well-being of Minnesota’s children and families. The data serve as benchmarks of child well-being for policymakers and citizens and help to enrich local, state and national discussions concerning ways to secure better futures for all children. CDF-MN organizes an annual KIDS COUNT Coffee Tour around the release of the book to provide policymakers and citizens from around the state with the opportunity to learn about the data and engage on issues of child well-being.

On Tuesday, October 10, CDF-MN will release its 2017 KIDS COUNT Data Book and launch the KIDS COUNT Coffee Tour at Cookie Cart
in Minneapolis. We invite you to join us for this event! Attendees will learn about this year's Data Book that focuses on trends in key indicators of child and family well-being and highlights public policy that has improved or could improve outcomes for our youngest citizens and the entire state of Minnesota. This year's Data Book pays special attention to the state's shifting demographics in the growing number of older Minnesotans and rapidly increasing populations of color across the state. In order for all of us to be successful, the book emphasizes that Minnesota needs to continue to put its values of ingenuity, caring for each other and supporting work into action by continuing to pass policies that improve the economic stability, health, education, and home and community environments for all children and families. A presentation on the Data Book findings and information will be followed by a discussion of the state and federal political landscape and current and proposed policies that will affect Minnesota children and families. A panel of policy experts will guide this policy discussion that will be grounded in data, demographic shifts and Minnesota values.
