Description

A Chara,

The Taipei Representative Office in Ireland is pleased to announce the launch of the 2017 “Mandarin Chinese Character Festival” this coming 8th July from 11am to 3pm in Greystones Educate Together National School (Blacklion, Greystones, Co. Wicklow). The function will be organised by Ms. Evan Furlong, principal of the Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese in association with the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) in Taiwan. This free event promises to be a unique and wonderful occasion for children to learn more about Taiwan’s and Asia’s language, history, traditional dance, food, culture, and etc.

The day’s activities will centre around four teaching stations where children will participate in games to learn more about Mandarin Chinese and culture. A lot of prizes will be awarded to outstanding students and a lunch reception (food from our local restaurant Uncle Pan's cafe) will follow the event. The event will also feature cultural performances of the traditional Diabolo (Chinese Yo-Yo) and the Electric-Techno Neon God (Third Prince).

The four separate stations will encourage all the children to learn about Mandarin Chinese characters in a fun and welcoming environment: 1. The first station will feature a calligraphy workshop where children can practise writing in traditional Chinese characters and there are prizes for the top three. 2. From there they will proceed to the second station featuring a memory game. The children will watch a short film and then be challenged to solve jigsaws based on what they saw. 3. The third station will feature a quiz on Mandarin Chinese with the fastest winner receiving a prize. 4. Finally, the fourth station will challenge the children to create an artistic piece (story/drawing) using the pictogram words.

The parents are welcomed to accompany their children to take part in the event. It promises to be a wonderful occasion for both children and parents alike.

In the meantime, free information about Taiwan and Chinese culture including DVDs, books and souvenirs will also be available to pick up. The event is free of charge and open to all ages and skills.
