Event description

Description

Partners for a Livable WNY is recognizing the developments, people, organizations, and municipalities that have made innovative contributions to the resurgence of Western New York communities. The 2017 Livable Community Awards will be held on Thursday, September 28, 6:00 PM, at the Hotel @ The Lafayette in Downtown Buffalo

Awards will be given for projects consistent with the principles of Smart Growth and New Urbanism. Two of the four honoree categories will have an overall award winner judged by a panel of three out-of-town New Urbanist architects—from Rochester, Detroit, and South Carolina—who will be visiting the projects and people nominated in those categories. The winners will be announced at the event.

This is a great opportunity to meet other people in Western New York who support the principles of good development that Partners for a Livable WNY has been advocating for since 1999. We are encouraged by the sponsors who have already committed their support, including Acquest Development, Signature Development (Rocco Termini), Savarino Companies, Chason Elmwood Affinity, Iskalo Development, IRD Corp., Wendel, TRM Architects, Buffalo Urban Development Corporation, M&T Bank, and Gerald Kelly Capital Corp.

We hope you can join us on September 28th! Bring your co-workers, friends, and colleagues to the party!

There are four categories of honorees at the event. An urban innovation category recognizes buildings, developments, or planning efforts that have contributed in a unique way to the improvement of land use, the built environment, or transportation. A community activism category recognizes people, organizations, or public agencies that have implemented policies or practices resulting in improving the livability of the region, a municipality, or a neighborhood. Nominees in these two categories will be selected from recommendations received from the Partners for a Livable WNY board of directors, with the winners to be determined by out-of-town planner-architect judges and announced at the event.

There are also two government awards: one to a city and one to a town or village, for the adoption of plans, legislation, or policies that have resulted in significant improvements to the built environment for its residents. The fourth award category is a “special service” award, given to one or more individuals who have been instrumental in raising an awareness of the importance of creating a more livable Western New York.
