The town of Minocqua will again beat as the heart and soul of the Wisconsin craft beer industry once again at the 19th Annual Ice Cold Beer Festival to be held in downtown Minocqua, Jan. 28, 2017.
Last year, under a big-top heated tent, fest goers were able to sample more than 250 different craft beers, all made in Wisconsin and poured by Wisconsin breweries. This year that tap list is extending to include Minnesota, Michigan and Illinois.

A mix of craft beer, live music, food and fun, the event through the years has been a major fundraiser for the Howard Young Foundation's Dr. Kate Hospice, raising $57,309 to date.

"The fact that we can have this event in a town like Minocqua, in the middle of winter, pack people in record numbers and routinely give back to a cause like Dr. Kate Hospice is absolutely wonderful," Mark Garthwaite, executive director of the Wisconsin Brewers Guild, said. "What this event continues to do is support a great cause, bring friends together over beer and push the assertion that this craft is alive and well in Wisconsin."
The event was the brain child of Dennis Kohl, manager of Cellar 70 at Trig's in Minocqua.
As someone who's continually risen to the occasion to help local non-profits, Kohl has watched the event grow from a small community get together to the largest crowd ever in 2016, with more than 600 tickets sold to go along with a record number of vendors.
"This event in unlike any other in that the brewers themselves really invest into what we're doing here in Minocqua," Bo Belanger, owner of South Shore Brewery in Ashland and Guild board member, said. "And that fact that locally we are able to raise money for such a great cause just adds to the special feeling of this event."
The event works as a fundraiser for not just Dr. Kate Hopspice, but also donates to other local charities through donations of money and raffle tickets sold by volunteers. Those events there are sponsored by the Lakeland ATV/UTV Club, Town of Minocqua, the Downtown Island Business Association and Food Marketing Services.
Through the years, Minocqua Brewing Company owners Dan, Laurie, Ryan and Dustin White have enhanced the event through their personal time and donations, helping it become one of the biggest winter festivals of beer in the State. This year, new MBC owners Kirk Bangstad and Elizabeth Smith hope to continue building on the success of the event and continue the giviing.
"We love being involved in the community and this event is a major one for Minocqua," Bangstad said.
Locally, sponsorships continue to make the event thrive. Ritchie Oil & Propane, Woodruff Ace Hardware, Minocqua Taxi - DISCAB, Sam's Rental, A1 Septic, Best Western Concorde Inn, Trig's of Minocqua, Campanile Center for the Arts, Reuland's Catering, Custom Caretaking and countless volunteers all helped in making the event another success.
