Description

The History Project invites you to celebrate Boston's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) history and to join us as we recognize the community members and organizations who make history every day.

Wednesday, October 11, 2017 | 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Club Cafe | 209 Columbus Ave | Boston, MA 02116

We’re so thrilled this year to be honoring Larry Kessler, a monumental figure in Boston’s LGBTQ community. Through his leadership of the AIDS Action Committee during the crucial first decades of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, he touched – and helped save – thousands of lives. Please join us in honoring a leader who raised a beacon of hope during one of the most challenging periods of our community’s history.

The HistoryMaker Award has been presented since 2009 to those whose lifetime achievements have had a significant and positive effect on Boston and Massachusetts' LGBTQ communities. Past recipients of this award include Congressman Barney Frank, State Representative Byron Rushing, GLAD’s Civil Rights Project director Mary Bonauto, longtime BAGLY executive director Grace Sterling Stowell, Abe Rybeck from the Theater Offensive, and journalist Susan Ryan-Vollmar

At this event we will also present the 2017 Lavender Rhino Award, awarded annually to an emerging history-maker whose impact on the local LGBTQ community deserves recognition. Allison Wright has been named the 2017 recipient of the Lavender Rhino Award! A Staff Attorney at GLAD since 2012, Allison has primarily dedicated her work to addressing issues impacting LGBTQ people of color. In her relatively short career, she's had several impactful successes for our community.

We're also excited to announce that Etiquetteer Robert B. Dimmick will one again serve as emcee for the HistoryMaker Awards! Featuring photography by Matt Kurkowski, Xocialight.com
