2017 Fall Grow Green Homeowner Training Series

Crazy About Texas Native Plants & Pollinators

  • Go “ultra-local” and learn which native Texas plants are best to grow for food
  • Learn how to help your landscape make it through the dry patches and maybe even save yourself some cash.
  • Make your own native bee hotel to take home and add to your habitat

The classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. on:

Wednesday, November 15th, 2017

AGENDA:

6:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. Taste of Place: Edible Native Plants, Andrea DeLong-Amaya, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

Food expresses a unique sense of place. Native food plants reflect the local environment and remind us of where we are. Explore which native plants lend themselves to some cultivation (and which are left best to forage for in the wild).

7:15 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Water Conservation in the Landscape + Rebates, Chris Charles, Austin Water, City of Austin

When it rains it often pours but drought is a definite part of the Central Texas weather cycle. Learn how to help your landscape make it through the dry patches and maybe even save yourself some cash.

8:00 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. Mini-workshop: Make a Bee Hotel for Native Bees, Liz Cardinal, Sustainable Food Center

Native bees receive less attention than honeybees, but they are more efficient and effective at pollinating than honeybees. Learn about the differences between these two types of insects, then make them a home of their own! Bee house-making supplies will be provided.

PARKING:
Free parking is available on site. You may park in the surface lot on the South 1rst St. (west) side of the building or enter the north entrance of the parking garage off of Haywood.

Bring your ticket to the class to get it validated.
