2017 Graduation Celebration
“A Celebration of the Journey to Graduation”
Thursday, May 11, 2017 @ 6PM (Doors open at 5PM)
The Graduation Celebration is an annual event where the purpose is to pay homage to the past, while celebrating the future and endless possibilities of all graduating underrepresented students at the University of Louisville. This year's celebration will feature an alumni keynote speaker, music that will reflect the occasion, and individual recognition. Attire for graduates will be cap & gown. Event starts at 6:00pm. Doors open at 5:00pm. Dessert reception to precede event.
Note: Summer or December Graduates: If you are unable to secure a gown from someone that you know who has graduated from the UoL or another institution whose gown was black, feel free to wear all black business casual attire.
This year's event will include:
·Special message from guests and representatives from the University of Louisville Alumni Association.
·Graduation sash & Kente cloth distribution (see sample pictures below of both)
(Graduates are not required to wear Kente cloth/sash during event) The graduation sash & Kente cloth is something that is typically worn at graduation on top of your gown to symbolize your journey to graduation. Graduates have the option of purchasing a red, black, white, or purple (for current Porter Scholars only) Kente cloth based on personal choice.
·Photo Opportunity with family & friends
THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL 2017 GRADUATES (MAY, SUMMER & DECEMBER) INCLUDING CANDIDATES SEEKING UNDERGRADUATE,GRADUATE & PROFESSIONAL DEGREES. PARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO INVITE ANY NUMBER OF GUESTS OF THEIR CHOOSING.
DEADLINE TO RSVP IS APRIL 7, 2017. LATE AND WALK-IN REGISTRATION WILL BE AVAILABLE BUT GRADUATION SASHES & KENTE CLOTHS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS.
