The West Michigan the 2017 Faith Community Conference to End Domestic Abuse and Relationship Violence will be a full day event hosted by the Churches and Faith Communities of Western Michigan with the purpose of raising awareness, providing education, and sharing resources to equip our community and congregations to provide the help so desperately needed by those who suffer in silence.
The conference will feature a morning keynote address from Pastor Jim Liske of Christ Memorial Church and formerly President and CEO of Prison Fellowship, Dennis Van Kampen, CEO of Mel Trotter Ministries, and Professor Linda Graham with the H2 Dance Company of Hope College. Following the keynote will be a panel keynote with local leaders setting the dialogue/interaction throughout the day. Break out session topics will include: Talking to your Congregation about DV, Being 'Present' When Someone Discloses, Answering Survivors' Questions about Faith and DV, Creating Safe Spaces in the Church for Survivors and Others, and What About Abusers in the Church?
Lunch will be included and followed by an afternoon panel discussion. Resource tables will be available for people to pick up information and talk with the resource providrs (CWIT, Safe Haven Ministries among others). At least two safe rooms will be availble for the duration of the conference.
This conference is open to all who care about those who suffer from abuse -- every woman, man, child -- who could live a life more fully realized by being in a safe environment and surrounded by a community that strives to come together to make a permanent and profound difference.
