Legal Defense (LDF) insurance coverage is available to Peace Officers through the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC). This insurance provides for the assignment and payment of an attorney for participating Deputies who become the subject of an internal affairs investigation or a criminal investigation while working within the scope of their employment.
THE DSA STRONGLY URGES ALL EXTRA-HELP DEPUTIES TO ENROLL IN AND MAINTAIN LDF PLAN IV INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR OWN PROTECTION!
The DSA has LDF Plan I (Full-time) and LDF Plan IV (Reserves, Extra-help) coverage. Through the collection of union dues, the DSA enrolls and pays for LDF Plan I coverage for its full-time Members. Extra-help Deputies are also eligible for LDF coverage through us but are responsible for paying for their own coverage. The LDF Plan for Extra-Help Deputies is LDF Plan IV and is only available through the DSA.
Each November the DSA collects the LDF insurance fees from Extra-help Deputies who want LDF insurance coverage. The DSA Treasurer then signs them up for the coverage. The coverage period is from January 1st to December 31st each year. The enrollment period will end on December 15th each, and all enrollments will be completed by the Treasurer on or before January 1st for the following year.
In order to enroll in LDF, you must also be a member of PORAC. the fees collected to enroll are as follows:
+ PORAC Membership fee $40.00 per year)
+ LDF Plan IV Fee: $54.00 per year (Covers Reserves and Part Time Officers for Civil, Criminal and Limited Administrative Coverage)
The DSA is required to pay service fees to collect your credit payments and use this website. We are charging a a flat $6.00 fee (included in your payment) to cover these costs.
