Description

Join us at the 2017 EML July 31 – August 4

The EML provides educators with an opportunity to deeply engage with public teaching in a "live" classroom setting that provides opportunities to delve into the complexity of teaching as well as develop specific professional skills that disrupt social injustice and inequities in practice. Focusing on instruction that is specially designed to develop strong and positive academic identities in our students and to set them on a path to success in school mathematics, this program seeks to fill gaps in student knowledge while ramping up students’ reasoning and problem-solving skills through accelerated instruction, tasks, and problems that are created strategically to stretch students’ thinking and build their capacity to engage in the mathematical practices that are required by the Common Core State Standards. The class also emphasizes attentive engagement with others’ ideas and thinking as well as the development of skills of respectful argument critical analysis.

Attendees participate daily in the laboratory class and are able to choose from a menu of options for afternoon professional development.
