This certificate course meets the core curriculum requirements for medical examiner training, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). It updates medical examiners on body systems, history and examinations to qualify them to sit for the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) certification examination. It addresses the medical examiner’s responsibility to teach or inform drivers about medications and the impact the medications may have on the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle. It will address the use of the nursing process in performing the examinations and coaching techniques to better engage CMV drivers in safe highway practices.
Upon satisfactory completion of this program those eligible to serve as examiners will be prepared to sit for the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) certification examination.
After completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Explain performing and documenting the medical history and examination, including additional diagnostic tests. Describe FMCSA reporting and documentation requirements. Define ways of educating, informing, coaching and referring drivers about prescription and over–the-counter medications, non-disqualifying conditions that may need care, safe driving…and other areas.
