RE-THINKING ROLES IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM

Ensuring Fairness, Effective Advocacy, and Success for our Children and Communities

ABOUT THE TRAINING

All stakeholders in the juvenile justice system have unique roles. Fully understanding and embracing these roles is critical to effective advocacy and decision making as well as the protection of due process and successful rehabilitation of children in Delaware’s justice system. Delaware has made great strides in juvenile justice through reform and collaboration. However, there is still more work to be done. This day-long training, targeting all professionals working with children touched by the system, will address important areas in juvenile justice that require attention. This training by national experts will help us further our goal of a model system that guarantees due process, rehabilitation and success for justice involved children. Through this unique training opportunity, professionals will have a better understanding of their specialized roles in the juvenile justice system and how they can achieve better outcomes for children.

Sessions will include:

* The Unique Roles of Stakeholders – Advocacy, Fairness and Decision Making

* Procedural Fairness

* Juvenile Sex Offender Registration

* Restorative Justice

* Juvenile Confessions and Adolescent Brain Development

* Implicit Bias
